PT. Suka Jaya Makmur
Suka Jaya Makmur (SJM) is a natural forest on gently to moderately slopping, lowland and hilly terrain. SJM is the central concession in a major forested area straddling the southern portion of the West/ Central Kalimantan boundary area. The forest is making up to the southern extent of the Schwaner mountain range. SJM is one of three concessions which belong to the Alas Kusuma Group (one of the forest management player in Indonesia).
Steeper hill forests in the eastern and south eastern concession’s boundary and most of the northern sections of the concession’s boundary are classified as protection forest and excluded from the concession area. A major protected forest enclave occurs around the mountainous area referred to as Bukit Perai (Perai Hill).
Given the size of this concession and adjoining forest lands, the entire suite of endangered species is expected to occur within the concession area including clouded leopard, sun bear, red leaf monkey, white-spotted langgur, among many other species. Orangutans are known to be present and have been recorded in various parts of the concession. A 360 ha animal reserve to the north of kilometre 71 was created by SJM in 2003 in response to frequent sighting of Orangutans in this area. The 11,380 ha protection forest enclave around Bukit Perai is also known to be home of Orangutan population.
All of company’s log production are went to Suka Jaya Makmur’s plywood and sawmill in Ketapang, West Kalimantan. Downstream marketing of plywood and solid wood products from Ketapang industry is controlled by the corporate group’s marketing division in Jakarta head office.
